The Children Led Us

In a Christmas cantata with a children's choir we learned a song with actions: at the phrase "...on bended knee" the children learned to turn to the creche and go down on one knee.

On Christmas Eve in the service with the children's choir present, but not singing the cantata, we nevertheless came to that same phrase in our carol singing. Everyone present had a candle and, when we came to the phrase "...on bended knee" one child and then another in the front pew knelt down. Adults near them then followed their lead and did the same. Soon the whole congregation was kneeling.

Then a child stood and happened to raise her candle up high. Soon everyone in the whole congregation was doing the same and we joined together in a grand "Gloria" with candles raised high - all following the children.
