Do You Remember Us?

I preach most every Sunday, of course, and seldom take a Sunday off just to take one off. But I did. My wife and my 86 year old mother and I traveled back to the church of my childhood just to be there.
After the service Ralph and Lucille came up to me and asked, "Do you remember us?" I didn't hesitate a beat, "Of course I remember you!" for surely I did.
Ralph and Lucille had been my fifth grade Sunday School teachers. They were what might be considered common folk. No advanced education. Not well off. They lived in a little house that Ralph had built with a living room not as large as my office.
But they loved us and worked hard at teaching us. I remember especially the detailed map of the Holy Land they constructed so we could find all the places that were mentioned in our Bible studies. I remember also the socials they had for us in their little house. It was a joy to be packed into that little living room for some food and fun.
I can't remember the details of any lesson but I am sure a foundation of Bible facts was laid. I won't ever forget them, Ralph and Lucille, my teachers.
